Starting off 2011 collection with some floral sets ~ CCM four season set delivers a very pleasant and warm feeling, follow by Yong Sheng Gift Shop's kebaya ladies paired with beautiful flowers and butterfly, quite a popular set among collectors.
Diamonds is a girl's best friend, in this case, my new best friend even though it's just a replica used on the angpow like Avon above. Truly an elegant set! What do you think of Tung Lok combination of pink-purple-greenish floral pair above? They do have a kind of batik print feel which is pretty unique. Continuing the floral designs are the singles from Dermic Eucare together with Triumph both using my favorite pink theme. GDEX, YEO's and AMK Hub chosen blossoms, a more petite flower as compared to Billion and Parkson both went with more prominent floral. Others from HOJB, Bank of China, Bee Cheng Hiang and Walton also used flowers, all printed on thinner paper except for Walton who invested on a thicker paper. |
Usana came out with flowers in a pot and vase which looks very elegant indeed while Autodesk used a more modern touch of floral design. And when it comes to the difference between Malaysia and Singapore packets, the latter are always in better quality, both printing and paper ^^
The Blings***
They exist to impress as back then many favor red packets that shimmers like gold. Acer really works in that manner and so does Acson. My scanning does not do any justice to these beauties so you will have to have them as part of your collections to appreciate the shine. HSBC's hulu vase is quite unique as I have not seen it been used by others. Also known as ‘gourd’, hulu vase remotely sounds like ‘happiness and prosperity’ (fu lu) and is popular during the Qing dynasty. A front and back match piece, it's a beautiful set to keep.
You can see a fine fish pond with bamboo art in the background and a nice golden shine in the middle of the words "恭喜发财" from HP. Poh Heng and CIMB Singapore both used embossing in their red packets. The former did great with their embossed koi fish that shines as well. Plus that it's a front and back match piece so it's another keeper. While CIMB Singapore piece is much subtle in design, the quality and elegance is not compromised. Next we have Larrie and Pan Pacific Singapore both giving a classy feel. Melaleuca (which I am still searching for the other pair) and United Creations gives more of an orangey glitz.

Check out my (ahem) "Lamborghini" below (lolz) or perhaps you will like Hush Puppies which is a papercut design of their cute puppy mascot.

We continue the collection with more colorful pieces. Epson's front and back match piece above is all about the waves of the sea bringing in plenty of fishes 年年有余 (Nian Nian You Yu) meaning “Abundance through the year”. Colorful and meaningful. Next is 8-pc set from Mamy Poko, thick quality with front flaps and 8 sweet babies look. All I can say is "oh so cute" making them one of my top favorite from 2011. M&M below is simply an adorable set of four while IBM only came out with a single piece design, the thicker paper quality featuring a little boy and girl with 春联 chun lian, a special type of couplet used for Chinese New Year celebration made it quite delightful. Toshiba used a pink and gold theme to match it's white dolphin mascot. Singapore's DBS, DBS Treasures & POSB delightful sets are also very popular.
Shop n Save kept it simple with a little girl carrying a big yuanbao (gold ingot that was used in ancient China as money) and a little boy writing the word "fu" upside down to mark the arrival of good fortune. Toyota put up it's new year celebration on a globe with cars going through a village and a lion dance within. And we have another red packet using yuanbao with the once famous yellow man carrying a huge yuanbao from Digi. Next is big orange Nippon surrounded with Mandarin oranges, Ribena with their grape-fruit mascots, Kim Guan Press sweet couple, Prudential shining lanterns and finally RW Genting's Chinese God Of Wealth, Cai Shen Ye 财神爷 giving out yuanbao with an additional chinese zodiac fortune prediction.

From the banks we have CIMB featuring a circulating floral print with it's private banking using a darker yet elegant print with thicker paper quality while the group used a much brighter print with thinner paper. Also using floral motif are UOB Malaysia, UOB Singapore & UOB Kay Hian. Standard Chartered's paper is as good if not better, came out with the same design for both it's normal and priority banking, one using red and the latter using gold. OCBC's set of two also used red in one with floral prints and the other golden paired with Chinese mandarin fruit, both shimmering on a good quality paper.
Next is a set of two all the way from Taiwan, the famous super tall skyscraper Taipei 101. Located in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, and named in part for its 101 floors, Taipei 101 for six years, was the tallest building in the world. It still ranks as #6, as of June 2015.
The only one out of three front and back match piece that Magnum 4D has over the last 20 years, this piece used Chinese bamboo art to match it's front and back. The other 2 piece which has front and back match design by Magnum 4D is one in 2013 and another all the back in the 90s.
And finally we have the lovely sets; from Lavender, 3 different designs of a dragon, peach blossom painting and kids playing with fireworks.
