My dresser 我的衣櫃
Qípáo is China's mandarin gown, popularized by Chinese upper-class women in the 1920s in Shanghai. The body-hugging dress with distinctive Chinese features of Manchu origin is a cultural identity of the Chinese all over the world. This beautiful dress survived wars, endured many incredible changes and evolved incredibly over the years. Chángshān; literally: 'long shirt' also known as a changpao (chángpáo 長袍, "long robe") is another traditional Chinese dress that is worn by men. The Mandarin Chinese word changshan is cognate with the Cantonese term 長衫 chèung sàm. This was borrowed into English as "cheongsam." Unlike the Mandarin term, however, chèungsàm can refer to both male and female garments. In Hong Kong the term is frequently used to refer to the body-hugging female garment rather than the male changshan. Because of the long British presence in Hong Kong, that local usage has become reflected in the meaning of cheongsam in English, which refers exclusively to the female garment. Wrapped neatly with lots of richness, history and elegance, both the changshan and qipao has taken a special place in the hearts of the money packet collectors.
Latest addition to my dresser is Hong Leong Investment Cheongsam pair (above) and Dream Union Manulife (below). There are the first two that I have scanned for 2021.
From 2020 we have Mini Cooper quite an chic pair with it's bright and catchy couple in a die-cut Chinese traditional outfit backed by the beautiful blind embossed crane in a minty green for the gentleman and spicy tangerine for the lady. This is definitely an unique design and has my vote for freshness and creativity. Treetop from Singapore has such a lovely cheongsam casing with two lovely batik inserts, the red and the blue.
While I gather more 2020 designs, let's continue to admire the 2019 beauties: Tissot is rather simple especially the colors and paper used are relatively normal as compared to their past years. Having said that I do appreciate the building art on their screen folder. The purple queen Estetica with their 4pcs elegant silver floral in front and cheongsam behind while making a classic appearance is the set of four vibrant changshan & qipao from Konica Minolta.
Below we have the gorgeous "keyhole neckliners" and taking the lead we have Standard Chartered Private with four vibrant floral inserts matched with a stunning cheongsam casing. Next we have Hansgrohe, D-Link and Yue Hwa, all from Singapore while from Malaysia we have a 2019 folding screen set by Delicious a restaurant group with outlets in One Utama, St Mary and Bangsar Village; also from Bandar Utama is the lovely One World Hotel single but just as captivating. From 2018 we have Cordlife Singapore and I believe is the smallest keyhole from Tungsan Singapore. Next we have Healthlane, a 3pcs set from 2017 and in 2016 Tai Thong single sweet pinkish piece.
The keyhole cut from Voir 2018 joins the set of five in 2019 to complete their cheongsam collection series while below we have Korea Wallpaper, once again incorporated their wallpaper in a set of four different Chinese wear; the keyhole cheongsam style paired with a Chinese lute or better known as Pipa 琵琶, a more casual wear for practicing kungfu therefore paired with a sword for the ladies and Chinese fan for the men while another piece of tangzhuang with two front pockets and the braided hair representing the Qing dynasty. If you have them in your collection be sure to take those wallpapers out to admire the complete design of the packets, truly showing off the body figure (grin).
More 2019 dresses joining the party is Darlie, a more simple and plain design whereas Schrammek trio is quite a classic and looking elegant too. Taking on a similar color tone is Tomei 2018 set of four which is the only set with a cheongsam piece since my collection in 2014. Dermalogica was such a pleasant surprise with a big change from their all red theme since 2015 to a 8pcs set that is multi colored, soft and sweet. Dove has given us more colors and a casing to hold the four floral dresses.
Here come the beauties from Singapore. Above the classic and elegant set of four from Marriott Tang Plaza Singapore while below we have the sweet pink-minty green pair with the creamy lustrous pearl knot from Singapore Student Development. I only have this 2019 and their 2017 in my collection so far, hop over my facebook album (click here) to take a peep.
We have more soft and sweet looking beauties, the lovely pink paired with a gentle baby blue also with pearl knots from Wisma Atria in 2019 and minty green in 2018. Below from the Malay traditional clothing series is Suntec City 2019 & 2018 Raya batik print edition followed by the brown pair from Paynet and Sambalchili with their Baba Nyonya blouse dress, the Nyonya Kebaya. Adding on two more pairs of the Malay traditional wear is Pusat Pakaian Hari Hari, a local fashion store.
The year of dog brought many more elegant designs from Singapore. While I gather the rest from Malaysia as well as the current and pass years, please come back soon to pick your favorite piece. This dresser is going to be filled with more stunning beauties!!
It's time for a more complete cheongsam designs with full length view instead of just a flat surface top. 2018 OCBC plus visa card has a simple yet tasteful pair of a yellow and blue pair while in 2017 there were definitely more designs. My one and only YCC which was an extremely lucky trade is gorgeous with a die cut casing showing off the 6pcs floral cheongsam and adjoining floral background both front and back! Next we have Quill City Mall that uses the five different designed cheongsam as front flap. The most stunning of all is definitely from Edward Kong and their gorgeous pearls. I am indeed very proud to own such elegant beauties over the years thanks to my BFF and her childhood friend with non other than Mrs EK herself. I am just the luckiest ^^ Come back soon for one more series of their cheongsam.
Above are the signature qipao uniforms by Singapore Airlines that I have in my collection. I do like their latest design of the pearly whites, does give a different feel altogether. Below from 2017 Coway is their cheongsam pair with the dragon for the gentleman and the blossom tree and sparrows for the lady.
